Matthijs de Ligt vertrekt aan het einde van het seizoen bijna zeker bij Ajax. Volgens John Lammers die trainer is in de Deense competitie doen de Amsterdammers er goed aan om is te gaan scouten in die league.
“De opvolger van Matthijs de Ligt loopt hier in Denemarken. Die heb ik al gezien”, vertelt Lammers in gesprek met Voetbal International. “Het voetbal is hier anders. In vergelijking met Nederland is het veel moeilijker spelen. Zeker voor aanvallers. Je krijgt nauwelijks ruimte, grote uitslagen zie je zelden. Kopenhagen en Midtjylland zijn het PSV en Ajax van Denemarken. Het grote verschil is dat zij bredere selecties hebben.”
“Een topscorer maakt hier echt geen twintig goals in een seizoen”, vervolgt de trainer van Esbjerg fB. “In de jeugd worden voetballers vooral op fysiek geselecteerd. Maar de opleidingen zijn goed bezig. Kijk maar eens Nordsjælland, daar loopt wat rond, hoor. Als ik Ajax was, zou ik vooral daar gaan kijken. Die club verkoopt jaarlijks drie talenten en ze kunnen weer door.”
