Dat er geen toekomst meer is voor Mateo Cassiera bij Ajax is wel duidelijk. Hij mag vertrekken bij de Amsterdammers maar veel schot zit er niet in.
Zelf is de Colombiaanse spits ook behoorlijk gedesillusioneerd en ontevreden, omdat hij zich vele malen meer had voorgesteld van zijn avontuur in de Eredivisie. Hij werd voor ongeveer 5,5 miljoen euro opgepikt door de topclub bij Deportivo Cali, maar wist vervolgens nooit echt indruk te maken in de Johan Cruijff ArenA. Een verhuurperiode bij FC Groningen leek een goede oplossing te zijn, maar in de eerste seizoenshelft maakte hij dusdanig weinig indruk dat hij onlangs teruggestuurd werd naar onze hoofdstad.
Overmars wil Cassierra het liefst verkopen, waarbij het de bedoeling is dat er een gedeelte van het aanzienlijke aankoopbedrag terugverdiend wordt. Er lijkt echter helemaal geen concrete interesse te zijn voor de 21-jarige centrumaanvaller. Heel verwonderlijk is dat echter niet, want de Colombiaan maakte in 31 officiële competitiewedstrijden het schamele aantal van vier doelpunten. Mogelijk zal Ajax hem toch moeten verhuren, in de hoop dat de speler in kwestie tot leven komt.
